Burlesque Contest Fish&Whips 2012"
Jack Woodhead has been enthusiastic about burlesque dancing for years, and became famous by performing in England, Berlin and New York as a cabaret soloist. The British-born man currently lives in Berlin and is running a programme of shows every evening this week as part of the burlesque contest. The highlight of the four-day event is the final of the contest on Saturday 14 July 2012. The three winners will be chosen by burlesque celebrities such as Beatrix von Bourbon, LaLaVox and Lady Lou, and will be presented with goodies like photo shoots, workshops and cash prizes.

Host Jack Woodhead found a top quality location in the Comedy Club "Kookaburra": in 2002, an extraordinary cabaret stronghold grew up in an old branch of a bank, and has now become an integral part of the Berlin cultural scene. As the first comedy club in the German capital, the "Kookaburra" club in Prenzlauer Berg is unique in Germany.

Just a few minutes away from the event location, in the middle of the exciting Berlin Mitte district, is the legendary boutique hotel ARCOTEL Velvet Berlin. It is a place where the creativity of the cultural and art scenes are at home, a hotel with warm colours, clear shapes and sensuous details is hidden behind a high-tech glass façade. Alongside tourists and business guests, artists and socialites find the perfect place to enjoy the urban joie de vivre. The trained staff in the hotel always have exclusive tips for your evening programme, and would be happy to help you book a ticket for the "Second International Burlesque Contest Fish&Whips".

2013 sees "Kunst & Kultur" (Arts & Culture) in its 5th year

This series of events is now moving into its fifth year and we are pleased to have satisfied our visitors’ tastes so well in the past with a rich combination of art, wine, music and culinary delights. The following is a look back over 2012 as well as a glimpse into the coming "Kunst & Kultur" 2013 programme – dates to mark in your calendar now.

The works of the young Florentine painter Schejla Masselucci were on display during the first quarter of 2012. The amusing and ironic paintings were suitably accompanied by sharp-tongued excerpts from the entertaining bestseller Duck or Eagle by Ardeschyr Hagmaier.

Wolf-Peter Steinheißer is known for his simultaneously discreet and yet strongly expressive photographs. The exhibition marking the second "Kunst & Kultur" event was dedicated to music, his second major passion. On view were distinctive snapshots of consummate musicians, staged with fervour.

Currently on display are the extremely colourful and lively works of the Venetian painter Silvio Cattani. After innumerable exhibitions in Asia, America and Europe, we are particularly delighted to be able to present you with a selection of Silvio Cattani’s emotional and temperamental abstract works in Stuttgart.

Dates:
  • Tues., 2 October, 2012

The events in 2013 will be held each quarter as usual, but for the first time on Thursdays, as follows:

  • Thurs., 21 February, 2013
  • Thurs., 16 May, 2013
  • Thurs., 15 August, 2013
  • Thurs., 21 November, 2013

You’ll also find more detailed information about each artist prior to their event under the following link: www.barscala-stuttgart.de.

GENERAL PROGRAMME AND WINE TASTING
Registration, entry & programme:

As usual, all "Kunst & Kultur" events will be accompanied by a presentation of the wines of a single vintner, from Baden-Württemberg and from Austria. A buffet, laden with seasonal delicacies and prepared by the Restaurant WEISSENHOF, compliments the "Kunst & Kultur" experience. There will also be live musical accompaniment, its style reflecting the theme of each event.

Your entry ticket takes the form of a top quality ARCOTEL Camino wineglass, for use in the wine tasting and which you are welcome to take home with you after the event. An extensive ARCOTEL buffet, with Swabian and Austrian delicacies, is also included in the price. Places are limited so please book in good time.
Price per head: EUR 14.00

The "Eierschwammerl" is back again!

What the experts designate as "Cantharellus cibarius"  and our neighbours in Austria call "Eierschwammerl", here in Germany is called quite simply "Pfifferling" – after the field mushroom, everybody's favourite edible fungus.

This year the season for fresh chanterelles has begun relatively early – hard to believe, but this can be explained by the rainy weather over the last few weeks. This is because fungi are subject to spurts of growth depending on rainfall patterns; lack of moisture on the other hand slows down or stops growth altogether.

The chanterelle stands out particularly because of its unique shape to which, by the way, they owe their name because "chanterelle" means something like "small cup". From the gourmet's point of view this species of mushroom is distinguished particularly by its rather peppery, strong smell and mildly spicy flavour. The whitish flesh in its raw state is rather sour, but after cooking is very delicate, and all in all, also very healthy: it is full of protein, potassium and vitamin D.

The chanterelle can be found on the one hand in deciduous and coniferous forests, but on the  other, also on the exclusive Seasonal Menu in our restaurant FOREIGN AFFAIRS in the Arcotel John F Berlin. Our F&B Manager, Thomas Kreft, is delighted about the novelty on the menu: "From the entrée right up to the main course, we are geared up to make the most of chanterelles." As the perfect companion to pasta, meat and fish, the mushrooms can be combined well in practically any dish, and so our guests can enjoy such delicious creations as:

"Pappardelle with creamed chanterelles, glazed spring onions,
tomatoes on the vine and fine slices of Grana Padano"

Until September, you can enjoy these and many other chanterelle dishes in our restaurant FOREIGN AFFAIRS; then the little golden mushrooms will be replaced on our Season Menu. We will be pleased to accept reservations by telephone on +49 30 40 50 46-1800 or by e-mail at
