The most wonderful day of your life

Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944), French writer and pilot

You’ve found “Mr or Mrs Right”, and are now among the happy couples who are soon going to say, “I do”. After all, you want to look back on this special day with pleasure for many years to come.

Of course every couple has their own idea of what makes a dream wedding. Some want a romantic ceremony on a beach in the Caribbean, others want a cosmopolitan wedding in New York, while others are looking for an elegant ceremony against the spectacular backdrop of the Kaiserwasser in Vienna! One thing is certain though! The most wonderful day in your life calls for a very special venue!

Viennese romance meets unusual design

Celebrate your dream wedding in the stylish atmosphere of the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Vienna. Our banquet rooms are all air-conditioned and can seat up to 200 guests. If you like, you can even hold your civil ceremony at the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Vienna. The hotel has been inspected by the relevant municipal departments of the City of Vienna and since late 2011 has been licenced by the local authority as an approved venue. The huge panorama glass facades with a view of the extensive park and the Kaiserwasser are a very special highlight. In summer in particular, the terrace offers a unique backdrop for stunning wedding photos. The romantic suites at the ARCOTEL Kaiserwasser Vienna will turn your wedding night into an unforgettable experience. And what better way to start your married life than with breakfast in bed with a bottle of sparkling wine.

Once upon a time....

ARCOTEL Hotels celebrate  25-years jubilee – and this is a reason to celebrate. Appropriate to this occasion we want to take you on a journey into the past and tell you the history of the ARCOTEL Nike Linz!

The Nike Story – Part 1

In the middle of the cultural centre of the Danube park raises the obvious ARCOTEL Nike named after the Greek goddess of victory. As a guest of this hotel, which is since 01.01.1997 family-owned by the family Wimmer, you are always in best company!

The Nike sculpture decorated once the Linzer Finance building at the "Nibelungenbrücke".

Later it was sold to a museum in Germany. In 1997 the hotel in the Danube park was bought by the General manager of ARCOTEL Hotels Raimund Wimmer. His wife, the current owner of ARCOTEL Hotels Mrs. Dr. Renate Wimmer who is born and grown up in Linz, remembered the nike sculpture and so the hotel got his name - ARCOTEL Nike.
Unfortunately the efforts to get back the original sculpture from Germany failed. Therefore it was a new sculpture commissioned, which now decorates the ARCOTEL Nike Linz. Beginning with the historic Nike sculpture in front of the Hotel, up to statuary and paintings in all public areas art is lived in all facets of the Hotel.

This easiness of a "savoir-vivre" also enforces in the 169 double rooms and 5 suites, which are spread on 12 floors of the hotel. Since March 2008 the hotel decreeds about 7 floors in new Design and since March 2009 about 3 unique theme suites, the "Kepler suite", the "Circle suite", and the "Steel suite".

This was part 1 of the Nike story! In the next BLOG you will read about the artistic elements which are hidden in all areas of the hotel.

The history of the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino - Part 1

ARCOTEL Hotels celebrate  25-years jubilee  – and this is a reason to celebrate.
But we also celebrate - The ARCOTEL Moser Verdino has it's 15-year jubilee! True to the motto "Polyglott since 1858" we would like to say thank you to all our guests for your trust and we are looking forward on many more years!

For this special occasion we want to present you the amazing history of the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino - today we start with part 1

The fascinating history of the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino Klagenfurt is steeped in the historical developments of the city. But read up for yourself!

The history of the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino started out with a small gate in the city walls of Klagenfurt called Schlupf. This gate enabled easy access to the city since contrary to the other city gates its key was in private hands. For this reason, the door could be opened at will whenever the need arose.

In 1514, a great fire ravaged large parts of Klagenfurt. During the reconstruction works, a small house was built on the site of the Schlupf, whose owners readily took up and cherished the special atmosphere of the place.

All the people who have worked in this building ever since have offered some sort of shelter by providing board and/or lodging. In 1680, the Klagenfurt merchant Georg Struggl and his wife Elisabeth bought the building and turned it into a hotel. Later on, their son Martin fell in love at first sight with the adorable daughter of an iron ore mine operator, Maria Josefa, who he married in 1723.

In 1723, Georg Struggl's son Martin married Maria Josefa, whose father owned several iron ore mines and nail forges.

Fate had it that Maria Josefa lost her husband quite early into their marriage which forced her to run the business all on her own. When a second big fire hit Klagenfurt, large parts of the city including the hotel were severely damaged. The neighbour's son, Josef Moser helped Maria Josefa with the comprehensive reconstruction works, during which they fell in love with each other. After only a short while, Maria Josefa got pregnant with the first of their altogether eight children. They spent a wonderful 18 years together but then Josef Moser died and Maria Josefa was once again left to fight for herself. Unwilling to give in to her fate, she held her ground and invested all her strength into the family business and the upbringing of her children. Over the years, Maria Josefa became a much loved and respected landlady thus laying the foundations for the hotel's excellent reputation.

In part two of the story, you will find out the family history of the Mosers, the Verdinos and the subsequent history of the ARCOTEL Moser Verdino!

Hamburg for the whole family

Many argue that Hamburg is the most beautiful city in Germany. This is why it is also known as the "pearl" of the north. Hamburg has many faces, ranging from the historic (city centre) to the ultra modern (HafenCity), and from the traditional (fish market) to the hip and trendy (Schanzen district). We have asked around and looked around, and put together some great and entertaining thing s for the whole family to do. All you need to do is convene the family council, plan all the entertaining things you want to do and then enjoy your stay in the city. Allow yourself to be amazed by the diversity and variety of Hamburg!

SIGHTSEEING
What could be more exciting than discovering the history of the city of Hamburg together? The easiest way is with the legendary double - decker buses, great fun for all the family. It's not just the children that stand amazed at the port: everyone can marvel at the small boats and massive ships, some of which can also be boarded. Taking a trip in a small motorboat or a large steamboat is an experience in itself.

THE WORLD IN MINIATURE
Visiting the now world - famous MIWULA, Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg is an absolute must when here with the family. This is where you can see Europe's largest model train exhibition! It takes just a few minutes from the desert city of Las Vegas to Hamburg, while the large Knuffingen Airport is impressive not just for fans of aviation and technology, and you can even watch take-offs and landings.

ALWAYS ON THE MOVE
If the weather is good we recommend taking a trip to the Climbing Forest. Here, everyone aged 5 and up can hang from tree to tree. If you prefer the water then you can splash about and swim in one of the 25 Bäderland swimming pools, including the children's adventure area, flumes and jumps. And for anyone still not tired enough to fall into bed, there's always the Rabatzz indoor play area. Here it's all about running, climbing, crawling, sliding, jumping and skipping. The "Planten un Blomen" park offers the whole family the chance to experience nature in the heart of Hamburg. And if that is not adventurous and exciting enough, you can visit one of Germany's largest leisure and theme parks, Heide Park.

SCIENCE & CULTURE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Why does the giraffe have such a long neck? Can elephants really trumpet? And do orang-utans understand sign language? You'll find all the answers at the amazing Hagenbeck Zoo. If you want to know what it's like to grow up with monkeys or meet a real king of the jungle, you're best advised to take in one of the marvellous musicals in Hamburg, such as "ROCKY – the Musical" or "The Lion King". If it's the infinite stars in the sky above the Savannah in Africa that you're dreaming about, you can experience this "live" in one of the most advanced planetariums in Europe. We recommend the shows for children. But if things have yet to click for you then get yourself down to the KL!CK Children's Museum in Hamburg. Here it's all hands-on, and getting involved is a must.

WHISKY TASTING

6 FEBRUARY 2014 starting 7.00 p.m.
As our whisky tastings have recently focused on the different regions of Scotland, it is now time to stop off at the last Scottish region, Speyside.

SPEYSIDE
Speyside is the region that runs along the river Spey and is the appellation for whiskies produced by the roughly 50 distillers in the region to distinguish them from others produced elsewhere in Scotland. Speyside is main whisky region in Scotland not just because it has the largest number of distilleries and also the most productive; it is also home to malt houses, cooperages, blenders and (independent) bottlers. Many of the Speyside distilleries are just a few kilometres apart from one another; some are even just around the corner from each other, as is the case in towns like Dufftown (sometimes called the secret capital of whisky), Elgin or Rothes. Well-known Speyside distilleries include Aberlour, Cragganmore, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Glen Grant and Macallan. The Malt Whisky Trail – a tourist route that links eight of the more well-known distilleries and one cooperage - is also on Speyside.

PROGRAMME
Our barkeeper and self-professed whisky lover Marcel Klopp will guide you through this whisky tasting accompanied by suitable culinary creations. An ideal opportunity to enjoy the selected specialities and talk shop with the presenter.

THE SPECIALITIES OF THE EVENING
Matching culinary creations put together by our kitchen brigade under executive chef Michael Steeb.

From the range of high-quality whiskies from Speyside:

  • Glenrothes
