See you on Cuba

On Thursday, March 13th 2014., “Roko Academy" club organized a national competition "10th Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix 2014". Our prize winning barman Roman Rabik also participated in this exciting competition. The competition was tough; he competed against ten best cocktail barmen from all Croatia. They used all their creativity to make special cocktails and present them in their own unique way. Around midnight, when the atmosphere was at the peak, there was still no way of telling who will be the grand winner. All contestants were fully prepared; they gave their best to present their cocktails in the most spectacular way.

Our cocktail barman Roman Rabik enjoys entreating the guests at Joe's bar. He was the sixth competitor, and thrilled the audiences with his skills.  After the midnight, the best cocktail barmen, i.e. the grand winner was announced. We were happy that Roman Rabik won the first prize with a rum-based cocktail called "Modern Daiquiri " and " Che Che". He also won the trip to Cuba, where he will compete at the beginning of the June against the world best cocktail barmen.

Once again we are very proud that our very own Roman Rabik won this prize. We also hope that we will hear the great news from Cuba after the World Championships. You are always invited to meet Roman in person in the Joe’s bar in the hotel ARCOTEL Allegra. Let him surprise you with an unique cocktail that he will prepare just for you, according to your preferences.  You will love it, guaranteed!

ARCOTEL Hotels – The Story of a Name

Founder Raimund D. Wimmer

It all started with the vision of ARCOTEL Hotels founder Raimund Wimmer to develop an Austrian hotel group in which each hotel has its own unique personality. But a great company needs a great name! And so ideas were hatched and suggestions made until, after much discussion, the name ARCOTEL Hotels was born.

the origin logo of the ARCOTEL group

But why ARCOTEL? What is the deeper meaning behind this artificial word? The syllables are easily explained: ARCus (lat. arch) and ÔTEL (German with a French accent, the guesthouse). The name blends two concepts and expresses Raimund Wimmer’s idea of spanning an arc between the host and the guest and offering guests a home from home. This in turn led to our corporate philosophy of "passionate hosts", which the teams at ARCOTEL Hotels having been putting into practice for more than 25 years now.

But the unofficial explanation for the name is this: Raimund Wimmer wanted his guests to find him as quickly as possible. He therefore chose a name that would come pretty near the front of the telephone directory – even in those days, our founder was ahead of his time, because in a way, he was already doing "search engine optimisation" 25 years ago.

Our executive chef recommends …

Have you invited friends for a meal but don’t know what to cook for them? Have relatives said they are coming to see you on Sunday and you want to offer them a fantastic meal as well as the pleasure of your company?
If so, we’ve got the perfect solution!

Creamy veal goulash with gnocchi
Serves 4

Ingredients:
1 kg veal (shoulder cut)
200g onions
2 tsp paprika powder (sweet)
1 tbsp. tomato paste
250 ml whipped cream
20 g maizena
125 ml white wine
Salt, pepper, 1 bay leaf
1/16 litre oil (to brown)

Gnocchi Dough:
300 g flour (sponge flour)
3 eggs
150-200 ml milk (depending on the consistency of the dough)
Salt, pepper, nutmeg

Preparation:

Cut the meat into bite-size cubes and dice the onions. Heat the oil in a pan and then lightly brown the onions. Stir in the tomato paste, add the paprika powder and deglaze with wine. Add water. Add the bay leaf, salt and pepper and leave to simmer for approx. 15 minutes. Add the meat, stew until tender over a low heat for approx. 90 minutes. Remove the meat from pan when tender. Add a little cold water to the maizena and stir to a smooth paste; add to the sauce. Put the meat back into the pan and briefly heat again. Season with salt and pepper.

To make the gnocchi dough, mix the eggs with the flour and milk, adding a pinch of salt, pepper and nutmeg to season.
Bring salt water to the boil and press the dough through a sieve. Boil until the gnocchi float to the surface. Quench with cold water so that they do not form clumps. Melt butter in a pan and toss the gnocchi in it.
Serve and enjoy!

The ARCOTEL Wimberger Vienna team wishes you BON APPÉTIT!
